Why UBC Forestry?

I chose UBC Faculty of Forestry because of its academic excellence and the programs it has to offer. Also, because Vancouver is a beautiful city there are plenty of opportunities to explore the forests in British Columbia and observe the wildlife.

I live in Vancouver with my daughter and my husband (he is also doing a MSc in Forestry at UBC). Family life is very nice in Vancouver, because there are systems in place that provide tools and support for students that also have families.

My research is about Populus balsamifera L. (Balsam poplar) leaf anatomy and the variables that might affect mesophyll conductance and the diffusion of CO2 through specialized areas of the leaf.

The quality of life here in Vancouver is marvellous. I find there is a good balance of work and leisure at UBC.

Thoughts on UBC and Vancouver

The quality of life here in Vancouver is marvellous. I find there is a good balance of work and leisure at UBC. This life style allows me to participate in social and sporting activities at UBC in addition to my studies.

Future Plans

I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree and once it is completed I will hopefully obtain a job related to leaf anatomy in the Faculty of Forestry or in the Department of Botany at UBC.
